NSU Modern is one of UCLA's premiere hip hop dance teams and is home to some of the university's most versatile and talented dancers. Its members are proud to represent the Nikkei Student Union, UCLA's only Japanese American student association. Comprised of multi-ethnic Bruins from various dance backgrounds, NSU Modern strives to perform a variety of dance styles.

For the past three years, NSU Modern has had the honor of being the only dance team to grace the stage at UCLA’s oldest and greatest musical tradition, Spring Sing. In addition to exhibition showcases, NSU Modern also competes at various national dance competitions including VIBE, FUSION, and Ultimate Brawl. The team took 2nd at FUSION XI 2010, making them the first UCLA team to ever place at a major national hip-hop competition. NSU Modern also took home 1st place for a third year in a row at Omega Sigma Tau's Battle Royale, an annual competition between all of the UCLA hip-hop dance teams. Additionally, the team has been featured in print and on national television, and a number of its dancers are represented professionally by agencies in the dance industry. NSU Modern prides itself in bringing together bruins who share the same passion for dance, performance, and creativity.
